In search of the green fringed road
Planning for the trip to Chassignolles brought back so many memories of journeys through France as a child. As a boy I never quite understood why my father was so determined to spurn the autoroutes in favour of his much loved green fringed roads. To those of you unfamiliar with Michelin maps, a green fringed road is described in the legend as a ‘parcours pittoresque’ - put simply a turn off the fast lane into winding roads, beautiful views and impromptu lunch stops.
